WHEN TO SEEK GUIDANCE

Pain is not the only reason to speak with a physiotherapist

Consider an assessment when movement, work, sport, sleep, balance or daily activities remain limited; after surgery or fracture when rehabilitation has been advised; or when you are unsure how to return safely to activity.

Symptoms persist

Pain, stiffness or weakness continues to limit normal activity.

Recovery feels uncertain

You need a clearer plan after injury, surgery or a period of reduced movement.

Balance has changed

Walking feels less steady or confidence in mobility has reduced.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before choosing a service

If you are unsure where your concern fits, begin with an appointment request and describe the main limitation.
What happens during the first physiotherapy appointment?
The first visit usually begins with questions about your symptoms, medical history, daily activities and goals. Relevant movement, strength, balance or function may then be assessed before suitable options are discussed.
What should I bring or wear?
Bring relevant prescriptions, reports or post-operative instructions when available. Comfortable clothing that allows the affected area to be assessed can be helpful.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no responsible one-size-fits-all number. Frequency and duration depend on the condition, assessment findings, goals, response to treatment and whether independent exercises form part of the plan.
Do I need scans before booking?
Not every movement or pain concern requires imaging before physiotherapy. Bring existing reports if you have them; the appropriate next step should be decided from your history, assessment and any medical guidance.
Can physiotherapy help after surgery or fracture?
Rehabilitation may support recovery after surgery or fracture when it is appropriate for the healing stage and consistent with the treating doctor’s instructions. Share your surgical or medical guidance at the first visit.
What if I am unsure which service to choose?
You do not need to diagnose yourself. Describe the main symptom or activity limitation in the appointment form and the clinic can guide you towards an appropriate assessment.
