FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What to know before physiotherapy and rehabilitation
These answers explain the general process. Your own assessment and plan may differ according to your condition and goals.
What happens during the first physiotherapy appointment?+
The first visit usually begins with questions about your symptoms, medical history, daily activities and goals. Relevant movement, strength, balance or function may then be assessed before suitable options are discussed.
What should I bring or wear?+
Bring relevant prescriptions, reports or post-operative instructions when available. Comfortable clothing that allows the affected area to be assessed can be helpful.
How many sessions will I need?+
There is no responsible one-size-fits-all number. Frequency and duration depend on the condition, assessment findings, goals, response to treatment and whether independent exercises form part of the plan.
Do I need scans before booking?+
Not every movement or pain concern requires imaging before physiotherapy. Bring existing reports if you have them; the appropriate next step should be decided from your history, assessment and any medical guidance.
Can physiotherapy help after surgery or fracture?+
Rehabilitation may support recovery after surgery or fracture when it is appropriate for the healing stage and consistent with the treating doctor’s instructions. Share your surgical or medical guidance at the first visit.
What if I am unsure which service to choose?+
You do not need to diagnose yourself. Describe the main symptom or activity limitation in the appointment form and the clinic can guide you towards an appropriate assessment.
Will treatment be painful?+
Assessment and rehabilitation should be communicated clearly and adjusted to your condition and response. Tell your physiotherapist about discomfort, new symptoms or concerns during and after treatment.
Is physiotherapy only for pain?+
No. People may also seek rehabilitation for weakness, stiffness, reduced balance, difficulty walking, recovery after injury or surgery, neurological needs, or difficulty returning to work, sport and daily activities.
